Emmanuel Macron’s party officials have admitted they do not have a full list of candidates they hope to field in crucial parliamentary elections that will decide if the new French president has the power to push through his programme of reforms.
The president-elect had pledged to announce on Thursday afternoon the names of all those selected to stand next month in the country’s 577 constituencies. La République en Marche! (LRM), admitted it had only 450 definite candidates. Read more HERE.
Marion Maréchal-Le Pen, the niece of Front National leader Marine Le Pen and one of the far-right party’s only two MPs, is abandoning politics after her aunt’s heavy defeat to centrist Emmanuel Macron in Sunday’s French presidential run-off.
In a letter to her local paper to be published in full on Wednesday, the 27-year-old, a hugely popular figure with activists, said she would not be standing for re-election in next month’s general election, exposing deep divisions in the party. Read more HERE
